Healing isn't a destination—it's a decision I make over and over again.
For years, I believed peace came from fixing relationships, keeping everyone happy, and hoping people would eventually understand the hurt they caused. I know now that healing doesn't always come with apologies or closure. Sometimes it comes from accepting that they may never change—and choosing to move forward anyway.
I've learned that boundaries aren't punishment. They're protection. Walking away from unhealthy relationships, even when they're family, isn't giving up. Sometimes it's the healthiest thing you can do for yourself and for the people you're raising.
I've let go of guilt that never belonged to me. I've chosen silence over arguments. I've stopped chasing people who have shown me, through their actions, where I stand. I've learned that the family you build can become just as meaningful as the family you were born into.
Healing has also changed the way I see myself.
I spent years wondering why I never fit in. I wasn't the popular girl. I didn't feel beautiful. I often found myself on the outside looking in. Even in adulthood, there were jobs where I became the punchline, and relationships that slowly convinced me to make myself smaller just to keep the peace.
Today, I choose differently.
I dress for me. I think for myself. I don't need to follow trends to feel confident. I've worked hard to become someone people trust, respect, and turn to for guidance. My confidence wasn't handed to me—it was built one difficult day at a time.
I've also experienced what unhealthy love looks like. I've lived through controlling relationships, walking on eggshells, losing pieces of myself, and believing that was normal.
Now I know what healthy love feels like.
It's being accepted for who you are. It's being encouraged to grow instead of being controlled. It's laughing over our differences, supporting each other's dreams, and choosing each other every day. I still battle overthinking from time to time, but I no longer let my past write the story of my future.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that healing starts with your mindset. In 2024, I realized I wasn't trapped by who I had been. I started changing the way I talked to myself, the way I viewed difficult situations, and the way I responded to people who hurt me. It didn't happen overnight, and I'm still a work in progress, but I've learned that where your mind goes, your life often follows.
That doesn't mean life is perfect. It means I've stopped giving other people the power to decide whether I have peace.
If there's one thing I hope people take away from my story, it's this:
This space isn't about pretending I've figured life out. It's about sharing what I've learned while I'm still learning. If anything I've lived through helps someone else feel less alone or gives them the courage to choose themselves, then every difficult chapter has been worth telling.
